Frequently Asked Questions

What air conditioning features should I consider?

Fan speed is an essential consideration as this feature circulates cooled or heated air around the room. Look for a model with a wide airflow range and multiple fan speeds. Operating modes can also help you get the most out of your system. Common ones include Auto (automatically chooses the mode required to keep the room/s at the chosen temperature), Cool (cools the room), Heat (heats the room) and Dry (dehumidifies the air). Many units also have a Fan mode (which blows the air without cooling, heating or drying it) and an Economy mode (often called Eco Mode, it reduces power consumption). Some also have Sleep Mode (which adjusts the temperature in steps to a quieter, comfortable level for sleeping) and a human presence sensor (this detects when someone is in the room, so the unit keeps working).

What is Dry mode and when should I use it?

Just as temperature changes with the seasons, so does the humidity. Essentially, the “dry” function mode aims to reduce the excess humidity or moisture in the air. The result is a cooling effect due to the removal of excess moisture. It works similarly to the cool mode but detects temperature differently. In the cooling mode, the unit will cool the room and regulate according to the air temperature. When the system approaches the set temperature, the compressor speed and cooling capacity reduce, and the unit will turn off. In dry mode, the unit will record the room’s temperature and decide what temperature it will cycle off. It will then regulate the room. Fan and compressor speeds will be controlled to maintain the desired temperature differences between the return air and the cooling coil temperature, which will control the humidity of the air being supplied. You can read more about how an air conditioner’s dry mode works in our blog.
