What We Do

Trusted Gold Coast Air Conditioning Specialists

Our qualified technicians are fully licensed (ARCTick certified), insured, and trained in complex residential and commercial installations, including high-rise apartments and heritage homes. We’ve been servicing the Gold Coast for over 20 years.

Adding Air Conditioning To Your Existing Property?

Our specialised team can install a high-quality new system for properties without air conditioning. We have air conditioning systems for all property sizes, types and spaces.

We understand every space is different, so our team will first discuss your specific needs via phone consultation. For those with architectural plans available, we will evaluate these before booking a time to look at the property in person. This allows us to get a clear picture of installation options. This review includes:

  • Evaluating house plans (if possible)
  • For ducted systems, we will assess the roof’s pitch and the ducts’ position.
  • Recommending either a ducted or split system - this depends on the space and power available.
  • Checking for asbestos if the property is older.

After our on-site visit, we will share our recommendations and provide multiple air conditioning options.

Building A New Home With Air Conditioning?

For those looking at a ducted system, installation during the building process is the most efficient way to position outlets according to preference and conceal the system. We’re familiar with local Gold Coast council requirements and work closely with builders and developers to ensure compliance with energy efficiency and installation regulations. After years of working closely with architects, builders, engineers, developers and homeowners, we have experience in all aspects of installation. Builders can contact us before they submit a tender, allowing us to provide a quote. We encourage homeowners to contact us during construction, as early involvement helps us provide the best system recommendation for your space.Installing a ducted air conditioning system starts at the frame stage, after the roof and electrical work are finished. There are usually two stages of new home installations—first, we install the ducting, indoor unit, connecting cables and copper pipe.

Replacing or Upgrading Your Ducted Air Conditioning System?

If you have an older ducted system and are considering an upgrade, our first port of call is a property visit. This will inform us whether materials such as ducting registers, zone control systems and indoor/outdoor units can be used.

While it depends on how old your existing system is, you can save on running air conditioning costs by installing a modern system that has Inverter Technology, an efficient refrigerant (e.g., R32), and a zone control system, such as Advantage Air’s MyAir5.

After our phone consultation, we will arrange an on-site visit to assess the existing air conditioning system and all possible upgrade options. Depending on the system’s condition, we may suggest keeping parts, extending it, or replacing the entire system. For example, if you want to expand your existing system to cover a bigger area, we can install a unit with greater cooling capacity and extend the ducting.

Our quote includes the disposal of unused existing parts, any extra labour that may be required, and the entire installation process. We will manage the process from start to finish, and expert installations generally only take a day.

How Does Crown Power Recommend The Ideal Air Conditioning System For Me?

We consider several factors before providing you with the best recommendation. These include:

    • Floor plan and internal structure
    • Internal and external construction materials
    • Insulation presence and type
    • Power supply available
    • Ceiling space available for the indoor unit
    • Number and sizes of windows and doors
    • How often windows and doors are opening/closing
    • Number of people living/working in space
    • Whether fresh air is required
    • Room purposes
    • Heat loads in the property (e.g. for a commercial installation, how many computers are giving off heat?)

After evaluating these factors, we can provide recommendations for the most suitable air conditioning system for your needs and space.

Consumer Guide: Essential Air Conditioning Advice

What is the cost to install an air conditioning system?

Air conditioning system costs involve multiple factors. Ducted air conditioning units can cost anywhere from $5,000 to over $30,000, depending on the size of the space requiring heating or cooling. Split systems cost between $1,300 and $4,000 per room, depending on the size of the rooms and the power of the unit required.

    Key cost factors include:

    The size of your property

Property size is the most important cost factor. If you want a ducted air con system, you’ll need to calculate the size of the area to be cooled/heated, and for a split system, the number of rooms and their size are determining factors.

Rough guide to the cost of ducted air conditioning, by number of bedrooms

While bedrooms aren’t an exact measurement of the cost of ducted systems, we have put together an approximate cost (below) in order to help you estimate potential pricing.

    • 1-bed - $5,000
    • 2-bed - $7,000 – $8,000
    • 3-bed - $8,000 – $10,000
    • 4-bed - $10,000 – $12,000
    • 5-bed +$12,000 +

Please note that this is a guide only; specific quotes are required for every property.

Rough guide to the cost of split system air conditioners, by number of rooms and their types

Split system cost is based on the number and type of rooms. The following only covers up to 2 bedrooms and 1 living space – for cooling/heating properties larger than this, we would recommend a ducted system.

    • 1-bed - $1,500
    • 2-bed, 1 living area - $5,500

    Brand

Popular brands such as Panasonic and Daikin are premium-standard air conditioners. These higher-quality brands are generally more reliable, and last longer.

There are cheaper options for those on a lower budget, but it is important to understand that these systems may become more expensive over time, with higher costs in electricity and maintenance. When looking for a system, we recommend factoring in the lifetime costs of your air conditioning unit.

How much control you’d like over the system

Ducted air conditioning uses a zone control system, which can vary from push-button control panels mounted on walls to advanced smart features that allow you to adjust the climate from your phone or tablet. Advanced systems such as these cost more, so it is best to keep your budget in mind when determining the control you want.

    Energy efficiency

While choosing a system based on upfront costs can be tempting, it is worth factoring in the lifetime costs of your system, including electricity, and other running costs. Less energy-efficient units are usually cheaper upfront but can significantly increase your electricity bill over time. Purchasing a unit with a higher energy efficiency will reduce your electricity costs, so while you may pay more upfront, you will be saving money in the long run.

What are the running costs of an air conditioning system?

The price of running an air conditioning system is based on multiple factors, which include:

    • Temperature setting—additional degrees can increase the running cost from 10-15% (for more information, visit our guide on ideal temperature settings for your air conditioner)
    • Energy efficiency of the main cooling unit
    • Capacity of the system
    • Existing home insulation
    • The amount of time the system operates

For example, an estimate of running costs for a ducted system is as follows:

    • 20kW air conditioning system, with 6 zones
    • Average output of 8kW
    • Used for 120 hours per quarter
    • Cost of electricity is 22c/kWh

Using the above information, we can calculate that the air conditioner uses 960kW p/quarter (8kW x 120 hours), which at 22c p/kWh, comes to a total of $211 (or $844 for the year). Please note that this is an example, and individual running costs will depend on your specific use.

As another example, a 2.5kW split system air conditioner, running approximately 8 hours per day will cost roughly $80 a year.

Looking at running costs, a split system will be cheaper than running a ducted system if you’re only looking to cool/heat one or two rooms. You can also have a ducted and split system combo, which is suited for people with larger properties who want to cool single main rooms (e.g. a master bedroom) with a wall-mounted air conditioner, without using the entire ducted system.

    How air conditioning works

Air conditioning draws air from the area being conditioned. This air is passed over a heat exchanger, which cools or heats it and then sends it back into the area. This procedure occurs within the indoor unit, while the outdoor unit supplies the heat exchanger with the ability to add the heating or cooling element.

Ducted systems are typically designed for entire homes and have predefined zones, which means you control which areas you wish to cool or heat. Ducted systems give a more understated cooling/heating system than a wall-mounted split system, which doesn’t produce a blowing effect.

Central features of an air conditioning system include:

    Indoor Unit

The indoor unit of an air conditioner consists of a heat exchange coil, a fan, filters, and a remote signal receiver and connects to the outdoor unit via a refrigeration pipe. If you opt for a ducted system, the indoor unit will be installed in the roof cavity, whereas a split system will be wall-mounted or in a ceiling cassette for commercial installations.

    Outdoor Unit

The outdoor unit, fitted externally, consists of a compressor, a heat exchange coil, and a propellor fan. The outdoor and indoor units work together, with refrigerant travelling between them.

    Zones (ducted systems only)

Zones are specific areas within the property that you wish to cool or heat, which can be turned off when not needed. Some systems, like Advantage Air’s MyAir5, have a zone control system, where separate temperature levels can be set in each zone.

    Ceiling vents (ducted systems only)

Air passes through the flexible ducting (‘flex’), and is then released into the area to be conditioned via the ceiling vents (registers). These vents are visible, and come in multiple designs, making it easy to choose a style that fits your space.

    Ceiling vents (ducted systems only)

Air passes through the flexible ducting (‘flex’), and is then released into the area to be conditioned via the ceiling vents (registers). These vents are visible, and come in multiple designs, making it easy to choose a style that fits your space.

    Sensors

Air conditioning sensors ensure the temperature stays consistent for each zone.

    Controllers

Controllers can take various forms. Most ducted systems use wall-mounted controls, with multiple controls available depending on the size of the property (e.g., multi-story properties). Modern systems also allow you to control your system from your phone or tablet.

While split systems are typically controlled with a remote control, there are also options to incorporate smart features, through apps and some small additional setup.

What do I need to consider when choosing an air conditioner?

    • Energy efficiency
Your specific circumstances are important to consider—if you have a larger space to be cooled or heated, a ducted system can be a better choice. Premium-grade air conditioning brands such as Panasonic and Daikin are inverter-based, which means the system output is adjusted based on the room’s temperature. This allows for effective regulation of your air temperature.

Modern ducted systems show that a single KW of electricity can result in three or more KWs of cooling or heating power. However, this will depend on the indoor unit’s energy efficiency.
    • How much control you’d like over the system
With a ducted system, zones are able to be controlled from either a wall-mounted control panel, your phone, or your tablet.

Split systems differ in that they are usually operated via remote control. You can also add smart features to your split system to give you greater control.
    • Aesthetics
Aesthetic preferences may also be a factor in deciding between ducted or split systems. Some people prefer ducted systems because they are discreet, with just the ceiling vents visible. Others don’t mind the wall-mounted unit of a split system.
    • Home value
Ducted systems are great choices if you want to add value to your home. Ducted systems are less visible than split systems, can be easily controlled and are efficient at regulating temperature.
    • Durability
A regularly-serviced ducted system can last well over 15 years. Split systems generally last between 15-20 years.

Does reverse cycle air conditioning heat as well as cool?

Yes—by using a reverse refrigeration cycle, reverse cycle air conditioning systems can heat as well as cool, making them a great choice for areas with cold winters and hot summers. These energy-efficient systems help maintain indoor comfort all year round, reducing reliance on multiple heating and cooling units.

When the unit is cooling, the system works like a standard air conditioner. Turning to heat mode causes two key changes:

    • The indoor evaporator coil changes to a condenser coil, which generates heat instead of cold.
    • The opposite occurs in the outdoor unit—the condenser coil becomes an evaporator coil, producing cold air instead of warm.

Other advantages of a reverse cycle system include energy efficiency, better air quality, and humidity control, as it helps dehumidify and filter the air it circulates.
